Bryant grad recognized for promoting diversity

SMITHFIELD – Recent Bryant University graduate Jonathan DeCosta received a Statehouse citation last month for his four years of advocacy on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered community at the school.
As president of Bryant Pride, he worked to bring a LGBTQ resource center and gender-neutral housing to campus.
“It is really encouraging to know that I have been able to make a difference on campus and in people’s lives,” DeCosta said in a statement.
DeCosta received the citation on May 10 from the House of Representatives signed by Speaker Gordon D. Fox, Majority Leader Nicholas A. Mattiello, D-Cranston, and Rep. Frank Ferri, D-Warwick, a Bryant alumnus from the class of 1976.
Ferri proposed the citation after DeCosta and a classmate interviewed him.
DeCosta, from Lynn, Mass., will begin graduate work in advertising this fall at Boston University. &#8226
