PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition is partnering with the Bryant Marketing Association, a volunteer, student-led group at Bryant University, to promote its 2015 competition using social media tools.
All events and news relating to the competition will be promoted via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and a blog.

The 2015 kick-off event for the competition was held Tuesday at Betaspring and attracted nearly 70 attendees.

It was broadcast live via Twitter, using the hashtag #ribizplan2015.

“We’re delighted to be working with the Bryant students, and we’re off to a strong start,” Peter Lowy, executive director of the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, said in a statement.
“They’re energetic, resourceful and creative, and, most importantly, committed to helping us spread the word about the competition.”

The competition is expected to award $200,000 in prizes. Recent winners of the competition spoke at the kick-off event, including David Bedard, of CompNet Insurance Solutions, who won the Entrepreneur Track earlier this year.
Bedard told those in attendance, “Give yourself ample time to review your financial projections, because they embody every element of your plan and how you will operate.”
Ze Chen, of Dual Server Cooling, a Student Track winner, advised, “Engage in dialogue with as many people as you can when developing your plan; you’ll learn a lot.”
And Erik Wernevi, of Nordic Technology Group, winner of the Technology Award, said, “Listen to your customers and potential customers, because what they say will shape a plan that will be robust and catch the attention of the judges.”
Applications for the 2015 Competition can be made online starting Dec. 1, and will be accepted through March 30.
Other events will continue throughout the year, including the annual Rhode Island Elevator Pitch Contest on Dec. 4. Participants will pitch a business idea in 90 seconds to a panel of business experts (and live audience) to receive immediate feedback, plus the chance to win cash prizes.
In January, February and March, seminars will be held to help attendees learn how to develop business plans that will attract investors.
All events are free and open to the public. Learn more HERE.
