Bryant students in national finals again

Posted 1/3/12

SMITHFIELD – For the second consecutive year, a team of Bryant University accounting students has reached the finals of xTax, a case-based competition sponsored by accounting giant PwC.

To reach the finals, which will be contested in Washington, D.C., Jan. 26-27, the team made a 12-minute presentation to a panel of PwC judges on a business taxation problem.

Members of the Bryant contingent – Jeffrey Dorosh of Naugatuck, Conn., Victoria Frazier of Holden, Mass., Anthony Mahn of Salem, N.H., Sagar Parmar of Cheshire, Conn., and Randa Tugangazi of Kigali, Rwanda – have earned a $10,000 team prize as well as $5,000 for their adviser, Bryant accounting professor, Michael Lynch. The students will be competing against teams from Binghamton University, Brigham Young University (last year’s winner), University of South Carolina and University of Virginia.

The xTAX competition – short for “extreme tax” – is part of the xTREME Games launched by PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 2002. The competition is designed to build critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills through real-world business challenges.
