SMITHFIELD – Bryant University’s international business program was ranked 27th in the nation by Bloomberg Businessweek, jumping from its position at 41st last year in the publication’s annual list of specialty business programs.
“Bryant’s IB students are motivated, capable, and bring a ‘global mindset’ to the table,” said Madan Annavarjula, associate professor of international business and director of the program, in a statement.
“They go through a rigorous curriculum and set themselves apart at the careers marketplace through a distinct array of attributes including language capability, study abroad and business consulting experience,” added Annavarjula.
The program has more than doubled in enrollment since its launch in 2006, going from 150 students then to 322 students this year.
Annavarjula and students regularly have said the program’s strength lies in its fourth-year practicum, in which seniors work as consultants at local businesses to help develop international strategies.
Annavarjula said that most of the program’s graduating 2011 class is employed in internationally-focused business positions.
Bryant’s entrepreneurship program, offered as a minor or concentration, also rose on Bloomberg’s ranking at 71st in the nation this year up from 97th last year, the first year it was listed.
Beginning in January 2013, Bryant will also offer a concentration in social entrepreneurship.
“Students who graduate from Bryant’s IB and entrepreneurship programs hit the ground running, setting themselves apart from the pack,” Jose-Marie Griffiths, Bryant’s vice president for academic affairs, said in a statement.
Bryant was ranked the 70th overall out of 124 schools on the list and was the only Rhode Island school to make the list. Bloomberg ranked Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. the top overall business school for the third consecutive year.
