Building one big heart-healthy nation

American Heart Association-Southern New England has participated in It Is All About Me, the organization’s diverse package of online wellness programs, since its 2007 founding. Participating employees praise its fun challenges, accessible education, motivation and accountability.

By providing tools to help employees and their families become healthier, said Michelle Karn, communications director, “we can move toward improving the overall heart health of the nation.”

Sixty-six percent of AHA’s employees in eight northeastern states – including Rhode Island – take part in the program.

The package offers information about 12 different healthy-living programs and personal health coaching, among other things.

“A priceless tool,” is how Winnie Carroll, an AHA-Southern New England employee, described It Is All About Me. “After having my aortic valve replaced and losing another sibling to a heart attack, I pay extra attention to my ‘numbers’ and my health,” she said. n
