If you want to talk about growth, have a chat with the folks at Shawmut Design and Construction.

Focusing on communication and innovation, Shawmut enjoyed a 72 percent increase in revenue between 1990 and 2014, ending the year with $957 million. The company expects a record $1.2 billion this year. During the same period, the company more than doubled its employees, from 600 to nearly 1,300.

Founded in 1982, the construction management firm has been 100 percent employee-owned since 2005, with eight offices, including one in Providence.

Shawmut’s client list includes Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, The Newport Marriott, Taco, Alex and Ani, Providence College and Johnson & Wales University.

The firm is now building two structures for Brown – new homes for the applied mathematics department and the school of engineering. Shawmut also transformed the Newport Marriott Hotel in time for the summer season.

“Eighty percent of our business comes from repeat clients, proving there is a strong focus on building lasting partnerships,” Vice President Ron Simoneau said. “By consistently demonstrating the ability to deliver … we construct the gold standard of client service. This allows us to foster relationships with world-class organizations that expect and appreciate the level of service we provide.” •
