Business Plan takes on new co-chair

PROVIDENCE – Anthony Mangiarelli has been named co-chair of the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, replacing Larry Davidson. Mangiarelli is a principal at accounting consultancy Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Ltd. and chair of its emerging and start up business services group, which helps entrepreneurs get their ideas turned into businesses and get them up and running.
Davidson, also a principal at KLR, had been co-chair since 2009 with Margaret “Peggy” Farrell, a partner at Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP.
“Anthony is deeply connected with the startup community and, from his professional experience, fully understands what it takes to build a growing company,” Farrell said in prepared remarks.
The competition, which was founded in 2000, kicked off its 2014-15 season on Oct. 14 at an event held at one of the sponsoring organizations, Betaspring. The winners will be announced May 1, following a series of workshops for entrants on topics that include identifying their ideas to writing a business plan to presenting to investors. In addition, entrants are encourage to start honing their messages at the annual Rhode Island Elevator Pitch Contest, to be held on Dec. 4.
Last year the competition awarded more than $200,000 in cash and prizes over the year in three tracks – entrepreneur, student and technology special award. So far this year there are 44 sponsors of the program (including Providence Business News), although fundraising is ongoing.
