SMITHFIELD – A business trade mission to Mexico in November is being coordinated by the John H. Chafee Center for International Business at Bryant University, along with R.I. Commerce Corp. and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The trip, from Nov. 16 to 21, is intended for Rhode Island executives who want to find new trade opportunities.
“This mission is part of a strategy to promote Rhode Island exports worldwide and help pave the way for our companies to enter or expand their global market share,” according to Raymond W. Fogarty, director of the Chafee Center.

He said the trip will feature one-on-one business meetings customized for companies, as well as networking events designed to connect companies with top-level Mexican corporate and government leaders. Company representatives will travel to Mexico City, then either Monterey or Guadalajara, depending on which city is the best match for their products or services.

“Having personally participated in several of these trade missions, I can attest to the tremendous potential value for any company that participates. Companies returning from previous missions have come back with important contacts that have led to significant contracts and business deals. Whether you are a large company or a sole proprietor, there is no better way to learn about a market, meet potential business clients and network with important contacts,” Fogarty said in a statement.
Eligible Rhode Island businesses also can apply for State Trade Export Promotion funding to offset the trip cost. Program registration deadline is Sept. 23. Call Kathy Therieau for information at (401) 278-9139.
