The city of Pawtucket received its annual dose of TLC as more than 100 volunteers from local businesses met at Wilkinson Park to tidy up the city for Pawtucket Proud Day.

Armed with gloves, rakes and shovels, volunteers began the day with a 30-minute clean sweep of the downtown area by picking up trash, weeding and sweeping.

Next, workers split up to tackle sites including Slater Mill, Old Colony Bank’s planter boxes and memorial, Wilkinson Park and the Leon Mathieu Senior Center garden.

At the event’s conclusion, the National Grid work team was presented with the Golden Bucket award for its outstanding efforts. John J. Partridge, chairman of the Pawtucket Land Trust, presented the award to National Grid representatives Lori Spangler and John Isberg.

“The same people here who take care of downed wires in a storm are the same people who are working hard beside you today,” Partridge told the group of volunteers.

This year’s Pawtucket Proud Day marked the ninth annual cleanup, and was hosted by the Pawtucket Land Trust, a subsidiary organization of The Pawtucket Foundation. •
