WARWICK – Kelly J. Fredericks, president and CEO of the R.I. Airport Corporation, is leaving his position on March 1 to become the new CEO of the Ontario International Airport Authority in California.
The news was announced Wednesday night at a corporation board meeting. The corporation oversees T.F. Green Airport.
Jonathan Savage, RIAC board chairman, said Peter A. Frazier has been appointed interim president and CEO.
“We have every confidence in Peter, who in his role as general counsel and senior vice president has been involved in all aspects of the operation of the airport,” Savage said in a news release.
“Looking forward the board will initiate a national search to continue the progress we have accomplished these past few years,” Savage continued.

Frazier, who has worked for the airport corporation for 11 years, previously served as interim president and CEO twice before, in 2007 and 2012. He will work together with Fredericks over the next several weeks to “ensure all services, operations and ongoing projects are maintained,” the release said.
In a telephone interview, Frazier said a timetable has not been set to hire a permanent replacement for Fredericks.

“The board will take whatever time is necessary to hire the best person that will best serve the people of Rhode Island and the airport corporation,” he said.

Said Savage, “We have been making great strides at the airport over the past few years, including expanding the airport’s operations. We have added international flights and were recently named third-best airport in the country by Conde Nast. We fully expect this progress to continue.”
Frazier said a runway extension project is slated for completion in December 2017, which will extend the runway from 7,166 feet to 8,700 feet.
Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian weighed in on Fredericks’ departure, saying he has served the RIAC well during his tenure.
“It is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Kelly Fredericks … I attribute the strong working relationship between the city and the RIAC in large part to Kelly and his team. Their efforts to listen to the city’s concerns and work cooperatively with us over the years have been paramount to the airport’s rising success. While we are sad to see him leave, we are excited for his next endeavor as he heads to California. He has served the airport and community well, and we appreciate all the hard work he has put into making T.F. Green an appealing option for airlines and travelers. We are confident that Peter Frazier will, as always, rise to the occasion of leading the airport corporation while a replacement is found,” Avedisian said.
Fredericks, who became CEO three years ago, made $302,940.01 in 2015; he also received a $66,187.80 incentive performance payment, according to information from RIAC.
