CMS gives 4-star <br> rating to BlueCHiP

WASHINGTON – The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid have rated all of the BlueCHiP for Medicare Advantage plans offered by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island four out of five stars, the highest designation the plans have received since the rating system began in 2007.
The ratings, which are based on a criteria that includes customer satisfaction, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, increased by half a point from last year for all five of BCBSRI’s Advantage plans.
“The increase in our Star ratings resulted from a lot of work by our dedicated employees,” William Wray, BCBSRI’s chief operating officer said in a statement.
Wray called providing benefits to Rhode Island’s seniors through Medicare Advantage an important responsibility.
“We hope this makes it clear that we want to be the plan of choice for the state’s seniors, now and in the future,” he said.
Medicare’s annual enrollment period, when seniors can join or change their plans, runs through Dec. 7.
BCBSRI’s offering this year address the need of seniors with more active lifestyles, with a stronger focus preventive care, according to Stacy Paterno, BCBSRI’s assistant vice president for public affairs. They are designed for people looking for more control and benefits from their Medicare coverage.
