CNE bolsters electronic medical record system

PROVIDENCE – Care New England Health System has announced it is the first provider in Rhode Island to go live with EpicCare Ambulatory, which successfully integrates physician practices and health care facilities to improve safety and outcomes for patients. This is part of the system’s ongoing efforts to bring physician practices into the new era of clinical information technology and a major step toward the implementation of a system-wide electronic medical record (EMR).

EpicCare Ambulatory is now live for six of CNE’s outpatient practices, with more than 150 users trained on the system. As part of a phased implementation, additional practices are being added on a rolling basis moving forward. The implementation plan includes RI Primary Care, the state’s largest primary care IPA.

When the implementation is complete, all Care New England employed physicians and affiliated practices will move to a single practice management and electronic medical record platform. The benefit will be improved coordination of information to advance patient care and enhanced interoperability with the Care New England hospitals and other providers in the state.

EpicCare Ambulatory includes modules that encompass the medical record, professional billing, scheduling, provider portal, patient portal, secure mobile applications, and multiple interfaces, including the system’s inpatient EMR, third party payers and CurrentCare, the Rhode Island health information exchange network.
