CNE creates comprehensive sports concussion center

PROVIDENCE – With the realities of enduring damage resulting from sports-related concussions growing ever clearer, Care New England recently created a comprehensive sports concussion center.

Staff at Care New England’s sports medicine affiliate, Affinity Sports Medicine, and specifically Affinity’s medical director, Dr. Jeffrey Manning, are playing leadership roles within the new center.

Receiving a sports-related concussion, Manning has said in the past, is not merely a matter of having your “bell rung.”

“Concussions are much more concerning than people once believed,” Manning said. “It’s a traumatic injury to the brain and it can lead to many problems that can linger for a significant amount of time after the injury.

The center has specialists at the ready for consultation and treatment, including pediatric and adult neuropsychologists, neurologists, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and physical therapists.

Anyone with concussion symptoms or other evidence of a possible concussion can make an appointment by calling 844-723-4293.
