WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark Charitable Trust – a private foundation founded by CVS Caremark Corp. – has opened the 2012 grant application process to eligible nonprofit organizations seeking funding.

The Trust’s mission is to provide funding for health care, education and community involvement initiatives that “help people on their path to better health in CVS Caremark communities,” according to a release.

The CVS Trust has invited any nonprofit aligned with its mission to submit a letter of intent that provides a synopsis of the grant request, general understanding of the problem the applicant organization seeks to address, how a one-time grant would address the specific need and the applicat organization’s capacity to have a lasting impact on the target audience and problem.

This year, the Trust seeks to support programs and initiatives in two main focus areas – access to health care, and children and inclusion – intended to meet one of four specific goals.

Grants in the health care focus are open to organizations that support innovative approaches to expanding access to health care for vulnerable populations, including support for mobile health innovations that bring health care to locations in need.

In the children and inclusion focus, grants are available for organizations that increase inclusive options for children with disabilities for physical activity, coordinate and improve health care services for children with special needs, or increase access to and appropriate use of early intervention services for children of all abilities.

Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000 for one-year support.

All letters of intent must be submitted online before June 29, 2012.
