CVS/pharmacy’s Advancing Medical Research fundraising campaign recently celebrated its success by taking part in pre-game, on-field traditions at the Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park.

During the summer, the chain’s national campaign raised more than $5 million in five weeks for the ALS Therapy Alliance and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Before the baseball game began, an Indiana family affected by cystic fibrosis, an Ohio family affected by ALS and a leader from CVS Caremark Corp. converged on the field with leaders from both benefitting organizations.

Lucas Fox, 9, of Indianapolis, Ind., who has cystic fibrosis, threw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.

Supporters of the 2012 campaign contributed at the register of CVS/pharmacy locations or online. All funds raised were earmarked for medical research to find cures for ALS and cystic fibrosis, and to help improve the quality of life for those living with the diseases.

“Campaigns like this are deeply personal to us, driving us to achieve results that will truly make a difference and help people on their path to better health,” said Jon Roberts, executive vice president of CVS Caremark and president of the company’s Pharmacy Benefits Management business. •
