WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark Corp. has appointed Thomas M. Moriarty as its executive vice president and general counsel, the company announced Monday.
“We’re very excited to have Tom join our team,” Larry J. Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Caremark, said in prepared remarks. “He has a broad range of business experience and legal expertise that make him a perfect fit as our executive vice president and general counsel.”
“He is extremely knowledgeable about pharmacy health care and the health care business generally and is widely regarded as one of the most capable and experienced general counsels in corporate America,” added Merlo.
Prior to the appointment, Moriarty served as general counsel of biopharmaceutical company Celgene Corp. Prior to that, he was general counsel and corporate secretary at Medco Health Solutions.
Moriarty succeeds Douglas Sgarro, who retired in May after more than 14 years with CVS Caremark.
In his new position, Moriarty will be responsible for CVS Caremark’s legal department and will act as a member of the company’s executive committee.
