WOONSOCKET – CVS/pharmacy President Helena B. Foulkes made a “surprise” appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live Friday to say that those long receipts the chain is known for will soon be a thing of the past for customers who want to go digital.
ExtraCare Rewards program members can receive their receipts digitally starting next month – all they need to provide is an email.
Kimmel, on his Friday night show, said he has had an issue with CVS’ “insanely long receipts” for years.
“Those who know me know I’ve been fighting for common sense issues my entire adult life. My No. 1 issue is this … I’ve yelled. I’ve screamed, to no avail. I’ve personally asked President Obama to do something about this. He did nothing and then something changed. I declared my candidacy for vice president and then out of nowhere we got a phone call from the president of CVS/pharmacy,” Kimmel said.
Foulkes told Kimmel that thanks to him, the company knew customers also shared concerns about the length of receipts.
“They were too long!” Kimmel exclaimed.
“They were too long,” Foulkes admitted.

CVS spokeswoman Erin Pensa said CVS representatives had been watching the Kimmel segments about the receipts so they reached out to ask if the show was interested in doing something about the digital receipt launch together.

“They were — and, in fact, were about to announce that Jimmy was ‘running for VP’ – so it made perfect sense to have Helena Foulkes go on to make the official announcement — and to give Jimmy all the credit!,” Pensa wrote in an email.
CVS/pharmacy is using the hashtag #ReceiptYouLater on Twitter to spread word about the coming change.
CVS’ receipts have been lampooned on social media for their length. There is even a parody Twitter account dedicated to it – @CVS_Receipt:
@rage_chaos: I see the videos on how to fold a fitted sheet, but none for folding a CVS receipt
@punmagnate: The thing about the long-running CVS receipt jokes is there’s no end in sight
@PaulElia123: I like to use my long CVS receipt as a scarf
CVS_Receipt’s reaction to the digital receipt announcement? NOOOOOOO.
Fans of the paper receipt take heart – customers who want a paper copy of their receipt at the time of the transaction will always be able to receive one, CVS/pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Health Corp., said.
