WOONSOCKET – Nonprofit health care accreditation agency URAC has awarded a specialty pharmacy accreditation to CVS Caremark Corp. in recognition of quality health care service, CVS announced Tuesday.
The Washington-based organization independently establishes standards in an effort to provide accountability in the health care industry.
CVS Caremark’s specialty pharmacy caters to patients suffering from complex or rare conditions, according to a release. Its services includes support and assistance handling specialty medications, ongoing disease education and therapy counseling, support and education for specialty patients, as well as managing health care provisions from multiple providers.
The URAC accreditation affirms the specialty pharmacy’s aspirations to “provide the highest level of quality services to patients who need specialty medication,” Dr. Alan Lotvin, executive vice president of the specialty pharmacy, said in prepared remarks.
The URAC is an independent nonprofit organization that establishes quality standards in the healthcare industry. Through accreditation and certificate programs the UARC provides benchmarks that are up to date and signify an achievement of excellence in the field of health care, according to the CVS release.
URAC Chief Operating Officer William Vandervennet applauded CVS for its accomplishment in a statement, saying that his organization’s accreditation “provides a mark of distinction for organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality health care.”
