CVS taps Roberts for PBM president

WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark Corp. tapped Jonathan C. Roberts, chief operating officer of CVS’s pharmacy benefits management business, as its next PBM president, effective Sept. 1.

The decision, announced Friday, slates Roberts to take over for current PBM president Per Lofberg.

After Roberts takes the corner office in September, Lofberg – who extended his employment agreement through Dec. 2013 – will serve as the unit’s chairman, focusing on strategy, new business development and client relationship management.

Roberts, a pharmacist by training, has been with CVS Caremark for 21 years. He served as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Caremark Pharmacy Services since 2010, prior to which he led pharmaceutical purchasing, pricing and network relations.

“Jon is the right leader to build on the tremendous foundation that Per Lofberg has created for long-term success,” Larry Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Caremark, said in prepared remarks.

“Jon is a results-driven leader, whose analytical approach has served him well in the variety of roles he has held over his 20-year tenure with CVS Caremark,” Merlo added. “His broad base of pharmacy experience will further our mission to continually improve how we do business and look for ways to do it better, more efficiently and at a lower cost.”
