CVS wins healthiest workplace award

WOONSOCKET – CVS Caremark won platinum recognition in the National Business Group’s 2012 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards, the company announced Tuesday.

CVS was among the 66 U.S. employers to receive the award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being.

Some areas of CVS Caremark’s workplace well-being program include smoking cessation, preventive health screening, prenatal maternity care, physical activity and healthy eating.

The company’s WellRewards program allows employees to earn points for healthy lifestyle choices in these categories, qualifying them for a reduction in health insurance premiums.

The National Business Group on Health, a nonprofit, membership organization based in Washington D.C., introduced the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles program eight years ago to encourage employers to improve workforce health.

Winners of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles awards were honored in one of two categories: Platinum, for organizations with mature workplace well-being programs – defined as programs operational for a minimum of 3 to 5 years – or Gold, awarded to organizations that are creating programs to support long-term employee behavioral changes.

The Platinum award emphasizes the importance of program outcome measurement and continued innovation based on analysis of those results.
