PROVIDENCE – Cape Air will launch its daily flight service between T.F. Green Airport and Block Island on Thursday, with the first flight taking off from T.F. Green at 11:31 a.m.

Announced in February, the new flight destination adds Block Island to Cape Air’s itinerary of seasonal service destinations flown out of T.F. Green, which also include Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Cape Air flight service to those two islands from T.F. Green began 17 years ago.

The flight from T.F. Green to Block Island is 34 minutes, Cape Air said.

“Whether it’s for a quick day trip to the island or fun-filled summer vacation, the addition of Cape Air service is a great option for travelers near and far that are looking to visit Block Island,” said Kelly Fredericks, president and CEO of the R.I. Airport Corporation, in a release announcing the commencement of Block Island flight service.

Due to demand, service to Block Island will begin earlier than the seasonal flights to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, which will start June 20, Cape Air said. Seasonal service will end in mid-October. Flights between T.F. Green and Martha’s Vineyard are 26 minutes long, and Nantucket is a 37-minute flight.

“Our goal is to get our customers to their destination quickly and easily,” said Linda Markham, president of Cape Air. “Our fast, frequent flights, baggage and interline agreements, as well as the hassle-free convenience of traveling through T.F. Green, ensures that our passengers have the best possible experience.”

Cape Air, based in Hyannis, Mass., is one of the largest independent regional airlines in the United States and ferries more than 735,000 passengers annually aboard its fleet of Cessna 402s, Britten-Norman Islanders and ATR-42s.

Britten-Norman Islanders are specifically suited to land at airports with short runways, such as Block Island Airport, Cape Air said. The Islander is a high-wing, twin-engine aircraft that seats nine passengers.
