Capital Grille moving to the GTECH building in city

PROVIDENCE – The Capital Grille will move from its current home in Union Station to the location in the GTECH building currently occupied by Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Rhode Island Public Radio reported on its website last week.
Best known for its fine steaks and seafood, the Capital Grille is slated to move into its new home in July 2015, a managing partner of the restaurant told the website. The larger space will allow the restaurant to hold more functions, including business events and wedding receptions.
The space is slated for a “multimillion dollar renovation” that will maintain some of the aesthetic aspects of the Capital Grille’s current space as well as introduce some new visual elements.
Artifacts including the large wooden canoe and the Bison head that overlooks the bar will be included in the renovated space. The new location will also include a larger patio space overlooking Waterplace Park, which can accommodate bigger outdoor events.
The menu will remain largely the same, Rhode Island Public Radio said.
Opened in 1990, the Providence location was the first Capital Grille. It currently has more than 50 locations worldwide.
In Boston, the Capital Grille moved from Newbury Street near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue to a new venue on nearby Boylston Street. The Boston move was successful in increasing business, the restaurant said.
Ruth’s Chris Steak House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether it will relocate in the city. •
