PROVIDENCE – Looking for a drink in the Providence-Warwick metro? Chances are you won’t have to look very far.
According to an analysis by CareerBuilder, which hosts an online job site, the Providence-Warwick metropolitan area, which also includes Fall River in Massachusetts, ranks 10th on a list of the most bartenders per capita with 2.5 bartenders per 1,000 residents, based on a population of 1,603,332 people. Metro areas with populations more than 1 million were ranked.
Two top tourist destinations were in first and second place, Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nev. with 5.5 bartenders per 1,000 residents, and a population of 2,068,145, and New Orleans-Metairie, La., with 3.4 bartenders per 1,000 residents, and a population of 1,274,362.
The Boston-Cambridge-Newton, Mass. metropolitan area, which also includes part of New Hampshire, came in sixth with 2.9 bartenders per 1,000 people; its population is 4,714,645.
CareerBuilder said March is typically a busy season for drinking establishments, citing spring break vacations, basketball tournaments and holiday festivities.
Its analysis, based on data from Economic Modeling Specialists Intl., said there are nearly 580,000 bartenders in the country, equaling 1.8 per 1,000 residents. It also found that 381 metropolitan areas and cities have ratios that exceed the national average.
It found that cities in the Midwest, Great Plains, Pacific Northwest and Northeast tend to have higher ratios than cities in the West, South and Southeast.
In a rank of the top 10 states, Massachusetts placed 10th with 2.8 bartenders per 1,000 residents; its population is 6,729,710.
