Carter trust gives to Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program

Posted 1/13/13

PROVIDENCE – The Carter Family Charitable Trust has announced it will continue its donation match program with the Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program, a “second chance” school for students who are at great risk for dropping out before they reach high school.

The charitable trust initiated the drive last year via longtime UCAP supporters John and Letitia Carter. The trust will match dollar for dollar up to $35,000 in gifts from individuals for UCAP’s Beyond School programs that engage students in after-school, weekend, vacation and summer activities including hikes, field trips, art classes, and technology classes.

The Carter challenge launched in December 2012 and donations will be matched through May 31. To date, $14,550 has been raised.

UCAP each September welcomes 70 students who are at least one grade level behind in schooling. After two years, 75 percent of those students are back on track and have completed three grade levels.
