Castle Hill Inn recognized by travel website

(Updated 12:37 p.m.) NEWPORT – Jetsetter has released its hotel food awards, and recognized Newport’s Castle Hill Inn for a “favorite food ritual that keeps us coming back.”
That ritual? Oysters on the lawn.
“The Kennedys had their Cape Cod compound and the Obamas their Martha’s Vineyard estate. For the rest of us, there’s the all-American, dare we say it, presidential glamour of lawn parties at Castle Hill Inn. Pack your boat shoes, head to Newport and contemplate the state of Narragansett Bay while slurping native littleneck clams and briny Matunuck oysters on the Victorian mansion’s 40-acre waterfront,” the travel website states.
Brian M. Young, managing director for Castle Hill Inn, called the award a “welcome surprise.” Young said the lawn is typically open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day, but will be opening earlier this year for the Volvo Ocean Race, which is coming to Newport May 5 to 17.
Young said the Castle Hill Inn is honored by the recognition, which, he said “is right on the mark.” Eating oysters on the lawn is a favorite food ritual of customers, who enjoy pairing them with a glass of wine or beer and watching the sailboats go by, he said.
The awards, which recognize the best restaurants, minibars, room service menus and turndown traditions at hotels worldwide, were announced this week.
“In an effort to provide better direction to its members who value food as part of their travel, (200) Jetsetter contributors ate their way from St. Martin to southeast Asia, sampling cuisine poolside, in the African wild, inside a private cave and in their hotel rooms – among other notable experiences,” the website states.
Other award recipients were: The private cave at Belmond La Samanna, St Martin, which was recognized for the most romantic dinner for two; The G Hotel in Ireland, recognized as the most Instagram-worthy hotel restaurant, and Rose. Rabbit. Lie. at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, named the hotel restaurant with food as pretty as the people.
