Census Bureau: Bristol County oldest in R.I., Providence County youngest

PROVIDENCE – With a median age of 44.3, Bristol County is the oldest county in Rhode Island, and with a median age of 37.2, Providence County is the youngest, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The census bureau said the U.S. median age increased from 37.6 on July 1, 2013 to 37.7 on July 1, 2014.
As the nation aged, so did the median age of all five counties in Rhode Island, the census bureau said.
Other counties with high median ages were Newport at 44.2 and Kent at 43.8. Washington County is considered on the young end, with 43.7 the median age, according to the census bureau.
Nationally, non-Hispanic, single-race whites numbered 197.9 million in 2014, representing the largest group, followed by Hispanics with a population of 55.4 million; blacks, 45.7 million; Asians, 20.3 million; American Indians and Alaska natives, 6.5 million; and native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, 1.5 million.

In Rhode Island, non-Hispanic, single-race whites numbered 786,563, followed by Hispanics, 148,095; blacks, 98,162; Asians, 43,571; American Indians and Alaska natives, 18,415; and native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, 3,122.
