Central Falls crowdfunding<br> project hits $10,000 goal

CENTRAL FALLS – Crowdfunding is a success in Central Falls – the city reached its $10,044 goal through the out-of-the box funding mechanism of Citizinvestor.com to pay for artful, culturally relevant and environmentally important trash and recycling bins for Jenks Park.
“It took us a little by surprise – we reached our goal 17 days early,” said Central Falls Director of Planning and Economic Development Stephen Larrick. The crowdfunding project was scheduled to wrap up Dec. 22 in the all-or-nothing format of citizinvestor.
“We got a few bigger donations that put us over the top,” said Larrick. “Students the Segue school raised $500.” That’s Segue Institute for Learning, a charter school for 6th to 8th grades in Central Falls.
The park renovation project got an anonymous donation of about $2,000 and a legislative grant though state Rep. Agostinho Silva, D-Central Falls, said Larrick.
The Steel Yard will submit a timeline in early January for design of the sculptural bins. The community will have input in the design process.
Of the total funding, the project cost is $9,300 with 5 percent to Citizinvestor and 3 percent to pay for credit card servicing for the online donations.
