PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee has been named to the National Governors Association Education and Workforce Committee by NGA Chair, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and NGA vice chair, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin.

The Education and Workforce Committee focuses on issues of workforce development and education, including early childhood, elementary and secondary education and higher education.

According to a release, members of the Education and Workforce Committee are responsible for ensuring that the governors’ views are represented in the shaping of federal policy.

“I am very pleased to serve on the NGA Education and Workforce Committee,” Chafee said in prepared remarks. “Education and workforce development remain critical issues for all states, particularly here in Rhode Island.”

“I look forward to securing greater flexibility for Rhode Island and all states on federal education and workforce policies by serving on this Committee with my fellow governors,” added the governor.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy will serve as chair of the Education and Workforce Committee with Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad serving as vice chair.
