Champions in Action host ‘Sail-a-Bration’

PROVIDENCE – As part of the 10th anniversary of Champions in Action, a program that supports nonprofit organizations working in designated areas of social concern, WJAR-TV NBC 10 and Citizens Bank held a “Sail-a-Bration” at the Community Boating Center in Providence. Guests enjoyed trips out on Narragansett Bay on Community Boating’s sailboats.
Over the past decade, the award-winning Champions program has given more than $6 million in grants to more than 250 nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Champions in Action receive a $35,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from the Citizens Bank Foundation and media coverage from NBC 10, including public service announcements and TV profiles. They also receive volunteer support from Citizens Bank and from NBC 10, promotional support highlighting the Champions in Action in all Citizens Bank branch DCN screens and on its ATMs and the opportunity for the organization’s executive director to participate in a “president-to-president” mentorship with Citizens Bank Rhode Island & Connecticut President Ned Handy.
To be eligible for consideration, an organization must have a total operating budget of $5 million or less, be a Rhode Island-based nonprofit organization that services Rhode Island and addresses the designated social concern and provide verification of tax-exempt status.
