CRANSTON – The Chapel View project in Cranston neared completion Tuesday when last piece of steel for 4000 Chapel View Blvd., the final piece of the development project, was erected in a ceremony.

The three-story structure is slated to be finished this winter. It will include two floors for retail use, including two restaurants, and one floor of office space. One of the tenants will be Staples, with others set to be announced in the near future. The building itself is made out of steel, along with glass, dryvit and stone, and it is intended to blend in with the neighborhood’s historic and newer buildings.

Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung was in attendance and supposed to go up in a crane to assist with the final piece of steel, but a technical glitch prevented him from doing so, Carlos E. Lopez Estrada, the mayor’s chief of staff, told PBN after the ceremony.

The Building 4000 total development budget was $8.5 million. It created 35 annualized construction jobs and is expected to bring 175 permanent full-time and part-time positions. It will have on-site parking.

“It gives me great pleasure to participate in the final phase of what has become one of the crown jewels of Cranston’s economic development, Chapel View,” Fung said in a statement. “This project has injected much-needed revenue into city coffers as well as created jobs for Rhode Islanders.”

Representatives from real estate organization Carpionato Group LLC joined Fung at Tuesday’s event.
