PROVIDENCE – The Providence Children’s Museum is hosting a summer reading program kick-off event today from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the museum on South Street. It is being presented by the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services which is running the program.

Local children’s librarians will offer book-related activities and recommended booklists for children.

The 2012 Summer Reading Program runs through August with events scheduled regularly at libraries throughout the state and themes centered for different age groups.

The Providence Children’s Museum event is recommended for ages 4 to 10, whose program theme for the summer is Dream Big READ!

Additional information on the state program is available at www.olis.ri.gov.

The children’s museum is open today from 5-8 p.m. free of charge for “MetLife Family Friday-Free at Five!” sponsored by MetLife Foundation.
