Children’s Museum tourney nets $46K

The Providence Children’s Museum’s 30th anniversary Allen H. Chatterton Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament, held at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, netted a record $46,700 on Aug. 5.
More than 120 golfers participated in the tournament, which benefits the museum’s hands-on exhibits and innovative educational programs.
The day’s winners included: low-net team – Keith Kelly and team from Citizens Bank; low-gross team – Al Pereira and team from Narragansett Bay Insurance Co.; individual low net – Bobby Quirk of Cedar Crest Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre; and individual low gross – Bill Taylor of Recruiting Technology Solutions. John Houle from JH Communications won a round at Alpine Country Club in a special contest sponsored by Chatterton Insurance.
At the evening’s dinner, guests bid $6,600 on exciting live auction items including rounds of golf at exclusive courses and tickets to New England Patriots games. A raffle and contest holes around the course fetched an additional $4,800.
This annual golf tournament was instituted in 1983 by the late Allen H. Chatterton Jr., an early supporter and board member of the Children’s Museum. The museum acknowledges Allen H. Chatterton III – a Rumford resident and president of Chatterton Insurance in Pawtucket – who chaired the tournament for the 24th consecutive year in memory of his father.
Major event sponsors included Admirals Bank, Delta Dental, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island and Nortek Inc.
