Citizens Bank in Providence has awarded a $5,000 TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship to Saunderstown resident Bevin Bankston for his community service work.
Saunderstown spans North Kingstown and Narragansett.
Citizens launched the scholarship program in 2011 to recognize students whose volunteer efforts have made a lasting impact in their communities. The award includes a $250 gift card from Stop & Shop.
Bankston, who will be attending New England Institute of Technology in the fall, is planning a trip for teens to travel to Uganda next summer to work in schools and on farms. He already has made similar “mission trips” to Mexico, Tennessee and Turkey and has worked on several community service projects in Rhode Island.
As part of a leadership development program for high school students, Bankston also went to Istanbul to teach English and support youth programs.
“Bevin Bankston is an inspiration to us all. He has contributed to his local and global communities in ways that are making a long-term impact,” said Brendan Coughlin, president of auto and education finance for the Citizens Financial Group.
As part of its commitment to students and to making education more affordable, Citizens also offers a TruFit Student Loan to students who live or attend school in the continental U.S. The private loan is available with a fixed or variable rate and flexible repayment terms of five, 10 or 15 years, giving students the choice to select the option that best fits their needs.
The bank also recently introduced an education refinance loan that enables borrowers to refinance or consolidate their private student loans at a competitive rate with flexible repayment terms.
