Citizens announces scholarship winners

PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank has announced that Lenore Montanaro of North Kingstown is a second-prize winner in its first TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship program. She receives a $5,000 scholarship to help supplement the cost of tuition for her second semester at the College of the Holy Cross. Brendan Morgan of Chepachet is a third-prize winner. He receives a $1,500 scholarship to help defray the cost of tuition for his second semester at Worcester State University.

The scholarship program was created as a way to recognize students whose volunteer efforts have made a difference in their communities. The winners were chosen based on responsibility and leadership skills they have demonstrated through community service. Almost 1,800 college students applied. The grand-prize winner received a scholarship worth $7,500. Four second-prize winners each received $5,000. And 14 third-prize winners each received $1,500.

As part of its commitment to college students, Citizens Bank announced its TruFit student loan is now available with a new fixed rate, allowing students to know their monthly payments when they start to repay their loans. Students are also eligible for other rewards and special benefits through the bank’s student money bundle program.

Details about the 2012 scholarship entry period will be available in the near future.
