Citizens appoints new president of business banking

PROVIDENCE – A Boston-based bank has hired the president of business banking and Massachusetts state president of Citizen Bank, resulting in a shuffle of personnel at the Providence-based financial institution.
Eastern Bank Corp. on Tuesday announced Quincy Miller would join the bank as its vice chairman and chief banking officer beginning next month. Miller joins Eastern Bank from Citizens, where he served as president of business banking, Massachusetts state president since June.
To fill the void created by his departure, Citizens has appointed industry veteran Chris Ward to take over as president of business banking, a division of the bank that serves businesses with annual revenues of up to $25 million. Ward, with 26 years of banking experience, previously served as head of business banking sales and will report to Brad Conner, vice chairman and head consumer banking.
“Chris is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the banking needs of small and medium-sized businesses,” said Conner. “He has a long track record of helping companies optimize their financial performance through the use of credit and cash management products and services.”
Ward joined Citizens in 2014 from BBVA Group, where he was global director of the small and medium business segment, according to a press release.
Jerry Sargent, who served as Citizens’ Massachusetts state president from 2010-2015, will reassume the position in addition to his responsibilities in the bank’s middle market business where he holds a commercial lending position, according to a Citizens spokeswoman.
