Citizens awards $125K to 8 R.I. nonprofits for financial literacy

PROVIDENCE – Eight Rhode Island nonprofits will received a total of $125,000 in funding from Citizens Bank through its “Helping Citizens Manage Money” initiative.

The bank is donating more than $1 million to 72 nonprofits in 11 states where the bank is located to help enhance financial literacy and give consumers the tools they need to be fiscally healthy.

In the program, Citizens will share its financial expertise with consumers through volunteer employee outreach. It is also launching a social media public service campaign dubbed “Get Fin Lit Fit” to share financial tips on Facebook and Twitter for National Financial Literacy month. By the end of the year, the program is expected to help some 100,000 Americans, the bank said.

Rhode Island nonprofits receiving funding include Foster Forward; the Community Boating Center Inc.; Crossroads Rhode Island; Junior Achievement of Rhode Island Inc.; Local Initiatives Support Corp.; Olneyville Housing Corp.; United Way of Rhode Island Inc.; and Connecting for Children and Families Inc.
