Citizens donates $125K on Giving Tuesday

PROVIDENCE - The Citizens Bank Foundation awarded more than $125,000 in grants to Rhode Island non-profits on Giving Tuesday, a new national initiative to encourage support of charitable organizations at the start of the holiday season.

The grants and recipients were:

• $70,000, Amos House

• $25,000, the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket

• $15,000, Rhode Island Community Action Association

• $15,000, San Miguel Education Center

• $2,500, The Jonnycake Center of Peacedale

Giving Tuesday is an initiative of the 92nd Street Y in New York, which garnered support of 2,000 organizations in 50 states for the launch.

The kick-off of Giving Tuesday this year was styled after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is endorsed by groups including the Giving Institute and the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy.
