Citizens names head of student lending

PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank this month named Christine Roberts head of student lending, a division of the bank that aims to help students pay for college.
Roberts, who will oversee the division, previously worked as vice president of marketing at Northeast Bank and held positions at Fidelity Investments and Fleet Bank. A Bentley University graduate, Roberts will help students with borrowing options with any lender, including refinancing of both private and federal loans.
“The long-term cost of college continues to be a major challenge for students, and we are pleased to have a leader with Christine’s experience managing this important part of our business,” said Brendan Coughlin, president of student lending at the bank. “Student lending is a strategic priority for Citizens, and Christine’s experience will be instrumental in driving its continued growth.”
The bank estimates its “student loan for parents” saves families an estimated average of $637 in annual fees alone with no origination fee.
Citizens, a subsidiary of Providence-based Citizens Financial Group Inc., is the largest Rhode Island-based bank with $140.1 billion in assets.
