PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank has named a financial services veteran to become its new president of wealth management.
John Bahnken, billed as having more than 30 years of wealth management, investment management and banking experience, joins Citizens Bank, a Citizens Financial Group Inc. company, from West/BNP Paribas.
Bahnken will report to Brad Conner, vice president and head of consumer banking, who, in a statement issued Sept. 9, thanked retiring president of wealth management Mike Millard for his tenure at the bank and touted the addition of Bahnken.
“John brings tremendous experience from some of the most-respected wealth management and investment firms in the country and will provide key leadership for all of our wealth management business,” Connor said.
The wealth management business of Citizens Financial Group, as of Dec. 31, had approximately $4.1 billion in assets under management and $17.8 billion in investment brokerage assets, according to a federal filing.
Bahnken most recently worked at BNP Paribas North American wealth business, where he helped grow its wealth management group, according to a press release. He also worked 15 years at Bank of America while it went through a series of acquisitions, including FleetBoston and Norstar Banks. He’s also worked at Prudential Securities and HSBC Americas.
Citizens Financial Group, with $137.3 billion in assets, is headquartered in Providence and is the state’s largest bank by deposits with 36.1 percent of the market share in 2014.
