PROVIDENCE – City Running Tours, which provides guided tours in 14 of the largest cities in the country, is coming to Providence with an inaugural tour slated to coincide with Earth Day.

With the city’s colonial history and culture as the attraction, Providence will host individual and group tours that provide a local perspective on the city while participants exercise and engage, said Michael Gazaleh, founder and CEO of City Running Tours, in a news release.

“City Running Tours continues to grow and offer more runs in more U.S. cities than ever before,” said Gazaleh. “In every city, it’s about the experience. We want to provide travelers and locals with the chance to get out and get in that important run of the day.

“At the same time,” he added, “we want to show them something new. This is what makes us unique and what keeps people coming back. Rhode Island Manager Serge McKhann has assembled a great team in Providence and they’ll make a great addition to the CRT Family.”

Other cities that host City Running Tours include New York; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; San Francisco; Boston; Seattle; Minneapolis; Austin, Texas; San Antonio; Portland, Ore.; Denver; San Diego; Baltimore; and Annapolis, Md., according to the company’s website.

“Providence is a fantastic running town,” said McKhann. “The advantage of City Running Tours is that it gives participants the opportunity to join with other runners and local residents who will share knowledge of the sights, history and stories that make Providence unique. With so much history and culture packed into such a small area, there really is something for everyone to appreciate.”

The first 1.5-mile run will start on April 22 at 6 p.m., leading runners from the south lawn of the Statehouse at the intersection of Francis Street and Gaspee Street to Union Station Brewery at 36 Exchange Terrace. A reception at the brewery will follow.

In Providence, group tours will include a waterfront loop tour, which is a three-mile, flat run; a historic Providence tour, which is a six-mile run past landmarks and historic buildings; and a “secrets of Providence” tour that will reveal “history, geography [and] strange facts.”
