Classical High School ranked best high school in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – Classical High School was ranked the best high school in Rhode Island, earning a gold medal, according to U.S. News and World Report’s best high schools list released earlier this week.
Classical, which was the only high school in Rhode Island to receive a gold medal from the magazine, was noted for test scores on college-level coursework and school and district data. Nationally, it was ranked No. 279.
Receiving silver medals were Middletown High School (No. 1,359 nationally), South Kingstown High School (No. 1,662 nationally), Lincoln Senior High School (No. 1,848 nationally) and Times2 Academy (No. 2,295 nationally).
Seven other high schools received bronze medals; they were not ranked nationally: Academy for Career Exploration in Providence; Beacon Charter School in Woonsocket; Blackstone Academy Charter School, Pawtucket; William M. Davies Jr. Career and Technical High School, Lincoln; Jacqueline M. Walsh High School, Pawtucket; Mt. Hope High School, Bristol; and Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School, Providence.
The magazine collaborated with global nonprofit social science research firm RTI International to create the 2015 best high schools rankings, which were released this week.
Approximately 19,800 public high schools across the country were evaluated during the 2012-2013 school year on how well they serve all students, not just those who are college bound, as well as how well they are educating students on various performance indicators, including math and reading tests.
In addition, the Washington Post also has released its “most challenging high schools list,” and Classical again ranked first in Rhode Island and No. 38 in the Northeast. Barrington High school was ranked second on the state list (only Classical and Barrington were included) and No. 195 in the Northeast.
