Clean energy shouldn’t be partisan

To the Editor:
The PBN article (“Partisan differences energize power plans,” July 14) rightly notes that the state’s next governor will shape Rhode Island’s energy future. It shouldn’t be a question of if clean energy is a part of that future, but instead how can clean energy be a part of that future, in a way that benefits Rhode Island’s economy, energy security and environmental goals.
Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee signed multiple strong energy bills recently, including the Renewable Energy Growth bill that will help jump-start a vibrant, rooftop solar industry in the Ocean State.
CleanEdge, a national research firm, recently ranked Rhode Island 13th in the nation for clean-energy leadership, up four spots from its 2013 ranking, with policies like the renewable energy standard and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative key attributes to its rise in ranks.
Rhode Island’s clean-energy industry is eager to work with all the candidates and the next governor to ensure that the sector continues to grow while delivering economic benefits and jobs to the Ocean State.
