Co-op lets artists help each other

Made in Warren is a nonprofit artists cooperative meant to be as affordable for members as it is supportive, says Diana Cole, a stained-glass artist and one of four board members.

“Instead of paying a hefty commission in a retail store, in our case the artist pays a monthly fee toward rent and sits a shift or two a month to man the store,” said Cole.

Forty-five member artists are supporting the rent and utilities for the space at 476 Main St., Warren, which opened in January.

Despite its name, Made in Warren represents artists from southeastern New England – chiefly Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Cole said.

The type of art represented runs the gamut, from ceramics and paintings to prints, jewelry and wood containers.

“It’s an exciting venture to bring artists together and see what happens,” Cole said. •
