Coalition sponsors financial literacy conference

Posted:

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women is sponsoring a free financial literacy conference to encourage financial independence and self-sufficiency for women and girls, according to a press release from the organization.

“When it comes to finances we all know that women, especially black women, are often treated as being less knowledgeable regarding investments, buying homes and cars, family finances and other money matters,” said Gertrude Jones, president of the group’s Rhode Island chapter.

“Women are often taken advantage of, sometimes pay more for services, earn less than men and many times are not able to support themselves or their families through retirement.”

The conference is Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Providence campus of the Community College of Rhode Island at One Hilton Street.
