PROVIDENCE – The Coastal Medical Inc. pharmacy program has received a longer-than-usual five-year accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
The ASHP typically offers pharmacy programs a three-year accreditation. The Coastal Medical pharmacy program, developed through a partnership with the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and led by Director of Pharmacy Sarah Thompson, was selected to receive five-year accreditation because of the quality of care it delivers as well as the education it provides to residency students.
“We have worked extremely hard to restructure our program into a comprehensive experience that has its roots centered in providing the best clinical care for patients, and the best educational experience for residents,” Thompson said in a release.
Coastal Medical pharmacy residents provide direct patient care in several of Coastal’s patient-centered-medical-home primary care offices. They have exposure to an accountable-care organization style of managing pharmacy through population health management. •
