Coastline Ambulance acquired

DARTMOUTH – Stat/Southcoast EMS bought Coastline Ambulance Services of East Providence, it said in a news release Thursday.

Nearly all of Coastline’s employees, 85 of them, will join the Stat/Southcoast team, effectively doubling Stat’s size.

According to turnto10.com, Coastline laid off 14 employees last year, citing new rates for Medicaid patients.

Coastline will maintain its name; it is based at 999 South Broadway and provides ambulance and wheelchair transport.

“We have been expanding into the Rhode Island market for some time, and we view the acquisition of Coastline as a key step in our marketing plans. We have a great deal of respect for the Coastline team and look forward to their becoming part of the Stat/Southcoast family,” said Stat/Southcoast CEO Carol Mansfield. She also said that it is “one step of several” for the company’s 2012 expansion plans.

Mansfield purchased Stat Ambulance Service in 1986 and founded Southcast EMS in 2008; together, the companies employ 100 people and operate 12 ambulances, six wheelchair vans and a town car. Its headquarters are in Dartmouth, and it has locations in New Bedford, Fall River and Newport.

Coastline was founded five years ago by Nick Barrett; it has seven ambulances and 12 chair cars.
