Coastway Community Bank recently released the results of the first year of its Community Involvement program. In 2010, 111 Coastway employees volunteered their time with more than 30 local organizations, totaling more than 2,100 hours of service.
The Community Involvement program at Coastway is focused on meeting the needs of families, children and the Rhode Island education system. The bank is collaborating with the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership to provide weekly, in-school mentoring, reading and activities. The program augments the financial support Coastway already provides to nonprofit and community organizations through its Coastway Cares charitable foundation.
Coastway Community Bank President and CEO William White said, “In a time when so many Rhode Island businesses have had to tighten their belts and cut back on their philanthropic support, we have found a balance in continuing to give much-needed monetary support, complemented with increasing our volunteer efforts so we can continue to make a significant impact on the community.” •
