Comcast launches cloud-based phone service

PHILADELPHIA – Comcast Corp. has launched its Comcast Business VoiceEdge phone service in 14 states, including Massachusetts - with coverage extending into Bristol County.
The cable giant’s new cloud-based voice and unified communications package includes unlimited nationwide calling, Polycom phones and HD audio.

“What sets Comcast apart from other players in this space is that we’re the only provider to combine a cloud-based voice service with vast network reach, a well-known brand and a strong focus on providing great products with high quality and consistency,” Bill Stemper, president of Comcast Business Services, said in a prepared statement.

The service integrates work, home and mobile numbers, allowing users to transfer calls between devices without having to disconnect the call.

Comcast’s VoiceEdge service also automatically sends copies of voicemails to users e-mail accounts if they’re away from the office or working remotely.

VoiceEdge is the latest addition to Comcast’s voice solutions suite, which includes Business Class Voice for small businesses and Business Class Trunks, a phone service for larger organizations.

The Philadelphia-based cable company plans to roll out VoiceEdge access nationwide by the end of 2012.
