Commerce RI awards $1.1M in renewable energy grants

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Commerce Corporation Monday approved $1.1 million in Renewable Energy Fund grants to 11 solar energy projects planned by businesses, housing developments and schools in the state.
The grants were the first under a new “Commercial-Scale Grant Program” for large, but not utility-scale individual energy projects within the Renewable Energy Fund, which is seeded through payments on Rhode Island electric bills and alternative energy compliance payments from National Grid.
The combined solar projects have an estimated potential generating capacity of 991 kilowatts, according to Commerce Corporation officials.
The agency board voted unanimously in favor of the following grants:

  • $83,290 to CC&C of Middletown LLC, a plumbing supplier
  • $96,303 to Babida Realty LLC, a self storage company in East Providence
  • $80,100 to GD Amenity and Leasing LLC, a subsidiary of Gilbane Development Co. constructing a student apartment building at 257 Thayer St. in Providence
  • $32,191 to the Rocky Hill School in Warwick
  • $59,625 to Church Community Housing Corp. in Newport for the Apple Creek Apartments in Tiverton
  • $87,723 to St. Rose of Lima School in Warwick
  • $57,500 to Community Preparatory School in Providence
  • $102,309 to Meeting Street School in Providence
  • $57,500 to Federal Hill House in Providence
  • $210,850 to West Warwick High School for its field house
  • $224,500 to West Warwick High School for its skating rink
