Commission approves East Side apartments

PROVIDENCE – The Providence City Planning Commission Tuesday conceptually approved the construction of a new five-story, 37-unit apartment building at 49 Seekonk St. on the city’s East Side.
To make way for the building, the gray, single-story medical office building now at 49 Seekonk St., across from Whole Foods Market supermarket, will be demolished.
The owner of 49 Seekonk St. is HK & L Associates, according to city records, and the developer is Walter Bronhard.
The old medical building was built in 1980 and the 0.31-acre property has an assessed value of $1.1 million.
The project still requires zoning relief for its front-yard setback and, assuming that is approved, would need to come back before the planning commission for final approval.
The new apartment building will have both underground and above-ground parking.
